All Over the Shop versus The Fixer

I have been very touched by the large number of people who have contacted or emailed me comparing me and my All Over the Shop programme very favourably with the new BBC show The Fixer starring Alex Polizzi.  The thing is, I really enjoyed the Hotel Inspector with Alex who was great, and I don’t think the problem with The Fixer is her.

When the production team helped me to create All Over the Shop, they realised that the solutions were often simple,  even obvious, (although perhaps very funny).  They also realised that the busy modern audience can have a short attention span so they gave me ten minutes per business – that’s about three days’ filming over two months however – and the messages had to be delivered chop, chop, chop, fast, furious and fun.  Strangely enough, the fact that we had a very small budget, also helped.  Instead of sweeping in with our makeover crew, we had to give advice that the businesses could afford for themselves.  This meant that it was sustainable and I am still in touch with a number of them who I believe are thriving.

For those in the ‘bring back the Burch’ campaign, I am glad to say I never really went away.  I am still working hard to help businesses succeed – after all that is my day job – and I am also working with a number of the BBC regions on business features that are very similar to All Over the Shop.  Thank you so much for your support, just to hear that you all enjoyed the show so much makes me feel really cheery and you’ve all made my day.
